Philosophy of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology
In order to contribute to the sustainable development of human society, we will conduct basic and applied education and research related to science and technology related to the ocean.
University Human Resource Development and Goals
In order for Japan to develop as a maritime nation and play a role in international contribution, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, the only maritime university in Japan, will provide education to "know the sea, protect the sea, and use the sea." It is necessary to fulfill its mission as a central base for research.Based on this basic point of view, our university conducts comprehensive education and research on the ocean, centering on the training of highly specialized professionals, including researchers, and cultivates human resources with the following abilities and qualities.
- Ability to deepen scientific understanding of the ocean and propose and implement desirable policies for utilizing the natural environment
- Ability to think logically, make appropriate judgments, and act with a sense of responsibility towards society
- Practical leadership ability to understand, recognize, and respond to the broader issues of modern society

Vision 2040
As we look toward the unimaginable future of 2040, we have compiled the mid- to long-term direction that Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology should take in the form of "Vision 2040," and have formulated and published an action plan for it. We will share this "Vision 2040" with all those who have an interest in Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, including stakeholders (students, faculty, and alumni, as well as people from related industries and the local community), and will build an independent, autonomous, and strategic system and operate the university to realize the vision.

"United Nations Decade of Marine Science'
The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development began in 2021. This is a 10-year intensive initiative leading up to 14 to promote marine science and contribute to the achievement of related SDGs, including Goal 2030 "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans and seas." Activities are planned to achieve seven social outcomes, including "clean oceans" and "productive oceans."

The Blue Economy is a concept born from the idea of ??protecting the seas, rivers, lakes, etc., while utilizing their blessings for social and economic growth, and bringing about a healthy earth that transcends generations and equal opportunities for all people.The scope of its economic activities extends over a wide area surrounding the ocean and coastal areas, including the fisheries industry, shipping industry, tourism industry, and energy industry, which greatly contributes to the SDGs.
